WOMEN'S MENTAL HEALTH
Dedicated to women’s wellbeing, with expertise in BAME communities.
Dr Lamba works with women and couples across cultures, with a particular focus on women’s mental health. She is especially experienced in supporting women from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, with a deep expertise in South Asian women’s mental health. As a Counselling Psychologist of South Asian ethnicity herself, she brings both professional and personal insight into the cultural systems that shape identity, autonomy, relationships, and overall well-being.
At Blue River Psychology, we understand that while each of us has our own inner world, we also exist within wider systems – family, relationships, work, religion, culture, and community. These systems are internalised by our psyche and profoundly shape our attachment styles, identities, and ways of relating.
For many South Asian women, mental health is impacted by both gender and race. Patriarchy can manifest through cultural expectations, gender preference, body shaming, or religion-based narratives around honour and shame. These influences can contribute to both patriarchal and identity-based trauma, silencing women’s voices and pushing them towards a “false self” as a defence against rejection and marginalisation. This can make it harder to live authentically and connect with one’s needs without fear.
Dr Lamba works closely with women and mothers to explore their early experiences, the narratives they internalised, and the intergenerational stories that continue to affect them today. She is particularly interested in intersectional feminism, and this lens informs her work with women across cultures, helping them to untangle the ways that gender, race, and systemic inequalities intersect in their lives.
Blue River Psychology also provides therapy for women and couples from all cultural backgrounds, with a commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of BAME communities.
