Dr Geena Saini

Clinical Psychologist

I am Geena, a qualified Clinical Psychologist. I am registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and hold membership with the Associates of Clinical Psychologists UK.

Over the last seven years, I have trained and worked in a variety of different settings including with children and young people, children and young people with neurodiversity, adults, families, mothers and babies during the perinatal period, people with intellectual disabilities and older adults with dementia. My current clinical role is within an NHS Specialist Children and Adolescent Service.

I am experienced in a range of different psychological approaches. The key approaches that inform my practice are, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion- focussed therapy (CFT), narrative therapy and systemic therapy. I try where possible to adopt a decolonised approach within my therapeutic work, I am aware of how therapeutic models can be quite westernised. My thinking is informed by liberation psychology/theory, critical whiteness theory. This has fuelled, throughout my career, my desire to contextualise people from all backgrounds within a therapeutic space but also be aware of my own multiple identities and how they may be influencing the therapeutic relationship. I am passionate about working with and holding in mind individuals and/or family members diverse identities, to help them understand the difficulties they may find themselves facing in everyday life. I am also curious as to how we can empower ourselves and hold onto our own acts of resistance whilst we face challenges in our lives.

I offer a more personalised approach to therapy, thinking together with the client about which approach(es) may suit them more. Working with children and young people, means that if we need to, I am happy to adapt therapy and be as creative as we can online together.

I know coming for therapy can lead to many emotions and feelings and I will always provide a compassionate, judgement-free and reflective space where we can explore whatever is important to you.

My areas of interest include but are not limited to

  • Culture and racial Identity

  • Trauma (this will need to be carefully assessed as not always appropriate for online therapy)

  • Working with shame

  • Low self-esteem

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Intergenerational trauma

  • Perinatal mental health

  • Attachment difficulties

  • Family/relationship systems
